“What is this ?? you are being such an absent minded
professor !” Mrs.Nesa Joy, my 12th standard teacher commented in a sarcastic tone.

Albert Einstein, G.B.
Shaw, Issac Newton, Archimedes and quite a few geniuses, shared a unique character
trait – absent mindedness. I feel extremely elated to be experiencing the ethos
of that elite group (how many ‘e’s). Few of them have forgotten their
belongings, their addresses, their relations’ names, and sometimes even their
own names. Following their footprints, I have forgotten a flurry of things all through
my life.
Though I have forgotten and lost many a thing, I have never
been in a loss to forget things that I have lost, being absent minded.
The list includes hundreds of erasers, fifties of pencils,
twenties of scales and tens of pens. I will try to recollect and reminisce a few in this
post.
Some day in 1999 :
1. “Child labor is
a crime and a disgrace to the country”, I strongly opine this thought.
But I was made to endure such labors myself, by my very own
parents when I was just eleven years old !! They asked me to carry two heavy
bags ; one in each hand, as we came from the bazaar to the bus stop, after
finishing our New Year Shopping. One bag had mom’s saree and the other one-
some bed sheets and pillow covers.

My parents boarded a wrong bus at first and i followed them. Realizing their mistake soon, they got down and hurried me to get down as well and we boarded another bus which was
heading towards our place.
We reached home after half an hour, when my dad found that
the bag with the bed sheets and pillow covers, was missing. My mom and dad stared
at me…I thought hard and hard and hard, never realizing that I had left them in
the first bus we boarded.
My dad took away all my savings from me as a punishment. He
would never knew that it was my first reward for my absent mindedness.
Another Day in 2000 :
2. I remember well
that it was rainy season. I remember it because, it was raining. It was raining
and I didn’t have an umbrella. I didn’t have it, because I left it at school. I
left it there because.. yes, I am absent minded. My mother, this time, upgraded
herself from ‘just a stare’, to a ‘stick wielding samurai’..
A proud present, for the prince of powerless mind. (How many
P’s)
Okay its 2005 now :
3. I had grown up to
be the smartest physically. I was in my 12th standard then.
One fine day I accidentally left my umbrella (a new one) in the class
room and went home. The next day, surprisingly, I found it in the very same place I had left it in the class.
That same day, I left my rain coat ( which I had brought, assuming that the
umbrella was lost) on some random scooter that was parked in the road near
my tuition centre and went upstairs for the class. Again , surprisingly, when I came back
after an hour I found it on the scooter, untouched. Holy divine intervention
!!
The next day, I left my umbrella in a random bike in school,
as I was combing my hair in its mirror and went upstairs to my class. After a while, I had a
panic attack, realizing that the umbrella was missing, I wrecked havoc in the
class and made everyone to get into a hunting mode and search for the umbrella.
When my class teacher inquired about all the uproar, I told
her..
”Ma’am.. Day before yesterday I lost my umbrella, yesterday
my rain coat and today again my umbrella”, I believe I should have said with
pride.
“What is this, you are being such an absent minded
professor”,Mrs.Nesa Joy, my 12th standard class teacher said sarcastically.
The whole class laughed. I bowed to take the applause. I never found that umbrella, it was lost for sure, forever this time.
“The umbrella is now
lost
Your thrashings are going to be vast” I heard one of the
geniuses say !!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I could go on and on with my adventures. But looks like I am
forgetting the things which I hopelessly hoped I would never forget. However, I
still remember losing two purses (with money, but more than that my pretty passport
size photo in that) a basket, with two
Tiffin boxes, two water bottles, two towels (now don’t ask me why two-a-piece,
that was just a back up plan, in case I lost one… and I lost both !!) .
People with such absent mindedness will eventually achieve
greatness. So console yourself, you have just read a few pages from a great
personality’s autobiography (What a finish..)
So, Do you have the greatness in you ?? If yes, share the
list of things you have lost.

Super!...do you remember me?

ReplyDeleteThis year while travelling from Chennai to Vellore, I left my bag and got down near Vellore Bus Stand and went home. My dad asked if I didn't bring anything. That's when I realised I was carrying a bag with my laptop, HDD and some clothes!! Luckily we got back to the bus depot immediately, found the bus and retrieved the bag :D
